I’ve seen this manicure a few times before and have wanted to recreate it for ages, but you know how things get pushed down your list! It was actually remarkably quick to do and was adorable – unlike real life bees which are terrifying!

Bumblebee nails

I started by painting my nails with a base of Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream. After that had dried, I used a tiny paintbrush and Nails Inc Black Taxi to draw the background for the bee and the flight path. I then used Barry M Yellow to fill in the bee head and stripes, and Barry M Matt White to fill in the wings. Finally, I added a little black dot for the eye.

Cutest design ever or what?!

Wedding Nails Idea: Silver Lace

I’m doing a series at the moment on Bridal Nails (you can see the first post here) as I’m trying to find to find something to wear for my wedding day in a couple of months time.

I’m looking for something classy, but still fun and a bit different. Everyone knows I like being a bit different :)

Wedding Nails Idea: Silver Lace

For this design I used two coats of Models Own Buff Pink, and then after that had dried, I used Barry M Foil Effects Silver and one of the Cheeky Mega Stamping Plates (annoyingly unlabelled) to stamp over this cute little lace designs.

I actually really like this design a lot – so elegant and pretty – but I think it still lacks some sparkle. I think I need to combine it with some glitter or something.

What do you think of this design?

Cherry Bomb

Time for another super cute manicure!

A few weeks ago I saw this video by cutepolish I just knew that I had to recreate it, so onto my list it went!

Cherry Bomb nails

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Matt White, and after that had dried I used a dotting tool and Barry M Blood Orange to dot on the little cherries. Next, I used a tiny paintbrush and Barry M Spring Green to paint the little stalks on. Finally I used a toothpick and Barry M Matt White to dot on the little shines on the cherries.

It’s got me thinking of other fruit-inspired manicures I could do!

Review: Pocket Money Polishes – I Put A Spell On You

Posted on: June 16th, 2013 by shewhodoesnails  3 Comments

You might remember the review I did the other day about Pocket Money Polishes‘ Starry, Starry Night by Charlie. She’s just started producing her own nail polishes collections, the first one being called Glitter Babies and is out right now.

Today I have for you another bottle from the collection called I Put A Spell On You. All of Charlie’s polishes are named after songs which is such a novel idea!

I Put A Spell On You is described as ‘Green stars, purple hearts with orange matte squares and a shifting rainbow’, and it looks like the coolest, most haunting polish ever! it has Halloween written all over it.

The application was very even for the orange glitter bits and the holo flecks, but again the stars required a bit of  fishing which I actually quite like as you get to put them exactly where you want them!

This is definitely my favourite polish in the collection as I have never seen anything like it! It looks so cool. In the photos I have layered it over LA Colors Fun In The Sun which is an amazing shade of purple in itself, and it compliments the colours of the glitter so so well.

You can buy I Put A Spell On You from Charlie’s online shop HERE for only £4 for a 5ml bottle. But if you put the code ‘Laura10′ in the comment box on your order, you can receive an extra 10% off your order! They’re limited edition, so grab one while they’re still available!

Superheroes Challenge: Wonder Woman

Posted on: June 15th, 2013 by shewhodoesnails  2 Comments

This week’s theme for the She Who Does Nail Art Challenges group is Superheroes!

I was quite excited about this theme as I am such a huge fan of superhero films at the moment as SO many have recently been released.

I was trying to think which superhero to choose, and I was swaying towards one of the Avengers as that has been my favourite superhero film recently, however I thought it might be a good idea to choose a superhero that I WANT to be made into a film.

I’m a little too young for Wonder Woman I’m afraid, but I would LOVE to see it made into a film!

Superheroes Challenge: Wonder Woman Nails

I started by painting three fingers with a base of Barry M Blackberry and my ring finger with a base of Barry M Blood Orange. Next, I used Barry M Foil Effects Silver and a tiny paintbrush to paint on the stars. Then I used Barry M Foil Effects Gold to paint the background of the Wonder Woman logo, and Nails Inc Black Taxi to outline it.

Take a look below to see what the other girls have come up with!

Review: Pocket Money Polishes – Starry Starry Night

Posted on: June 14th, 2013 by shewhodoesnails  3 Comments

I’m sure you’ve all seen the amazing work Charlie does at Pocket Money Polishes, but I’m sure you don’t know that we actually went to school together! So obviously when she told me she was going to start designing her own nail polish range, I was first in line to nab myself some!

Today I have to show you Starry, Starry Night from her first collection, Glitter Babies. All the polishes in this collection are named after songs, and Starry, Starry Night is described as ‘White stars with small blue matt hex and flecks of gold holo sparkle’ which I would say is a pretty good description!

The glitter in bottle looks amazing, and that is exactly what drew me to it. It is absolutely packed with glitter and the cute little stars. And the application was wonderful – little blue dots and gold flecks even distributed with no trouble at all. I had to do a little fishing for the stars, but that was really no biggy.

For the look in the photo, I layered Starry, Starry Night over Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and I think the combo is just beautiful!

You can buy Starry, Starry Night from Charlie’s website HERE, a 5ml bottle for only £4.00. But catch them quick while they’ll still available as they’re limited edition!

Wedding Nails Idea: Soft Sparkle

Posted on: June 13th, 2013 by shewhodoesnails  1 Comment

As you may or may not know, my fiancé Jack and I will be getting married in two months time. We’ve got nearly everything sorted and arranged now,  which is a big weight off my mind, and although I have my dress bought I still haven’t planned what I will wear on my nails!

I’ve decided to try out a few different ideas for my nails and show them on here over the next few weeks.

Today’s manicure is a soft glittery bridal look. I can’t get married without a bit of sparkle!

Wedding Nails Idea: Soft Sparkle

I started by painting my nails with one coat of OPI Pirouette My Whistle, a polish with a clear base packed with micro fine silver glitter and bigger hexagonal glitter. I then painted on one thin coat of Rimmel London Salon Pro New Romantic. I tried this out with multiple coats but it started looking far too pink and didn’t suit my skin tone. Finally I painted one more coat of the glitter before adding a topcoat.

I quite like this look I think. I think. I just wonder if it might look a little boring for me. I know it’s my wedding nails, but it’s still got to look a bit fun right?!

Nudey Flowers

More stamping! Woop! I just love it :)

This is a bit different to the kind of stamping I normally do – mainly because I haven’t used a metallic polish!

I’ve heard through the blogging grape vine that the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine polishes are good to use as stamping polishes as they are thick one-coaters. I just had to try it out.

Nudey Flowers

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Lychee which is a really pretty beige colour that I’m loving right now. I then used Barry M Blood Orange and Bundle Monster Stamping Plate BM-224 to stamp on the floral pattern.

Look how well it worked!! It hasn’t missed any of the bits of image or anything! I did have to work quite quickly, but that’s nothing different to normal when using polishes that aren’t made especially for stamping.

Have you tried any other polishes for stamping? What has worked for you?

Fan Me!

Firstly, can I saw how sorry I am for being completely non-existent for a week or so! I have been so unbelievably busy with wedding-y stuff it has been mad. Not long to go now though :)

Today I have another stamping manicure for you today using a polish from the NYC Foil Explosion collection.

Fan Me!

I started by painting my nails with 1 coat of Barry M Plum and after it had dried, I used NYC Power of Elements with Bundle Monster Stamping Plate BM-215 to create the fan pattern over the top of it.

I’m really loving the combo of a matte polish with a metallic polish stamped over it at the moment…. so cute!

I’m starting to think that I need to invest in some new stamping plates as I only have a couple of sets. Do any of you have any suggestions?
