Fruit Challenge: Watermelon

After a really really REALLY long break from the She Who Does Nail Art Challenges facebook group, I have finally restarted the challenges, and this week’s theme is fruit!

I’ve done a few fruit themed manicures before – Cherries and Strawberries – so I had to think a bit harder this time to come up with another fruity idea.

So what do you think of my watermelons?!

Fruit Challenge: Watermelon Nails

I started by painting two coats of No7 Cheeky Chops which is a wonderful bright coraly-pink. Just what I needed to cure the misery of this horrid weather in England right now! I then used Invogue Matte Suede Emerald Dust to paint the tips of my nails a shimmery green colour. After that had dried, I used Sinful Colors Exotic Green to create the stripes over the Invogue polish. Finally I used Nails Inc Black Taxi and a tiny paintbrush to paint on the tiny seeds.

We ate so much watermelon on our honeymoon last month, and it’s so nice to have a little reminder of that on my nails today!

Fresh Floral Nails

My goodness.

How long has it been since I last shared my nails with you?! About four months I think! So much has happened since then. My new husband and I had the most wonderful wedding day, we moved into our new flat and went on our magic honeymoon! I’ll make sure I write a post about the day and our honeymoon soon, but for the time being I’ve been painting flowers on my nails!

This pattern I found HERE on Pinterest. I loved it so much I had to recreate it. The are so many good patterns on Pinterest, I’ve had to create a whole board to accommodate them! Use the button in the top right of my blog to follow my pins on Pinterest!

Fresh Floral Nails

I started by painting my nails with two coats of the good old Barry M Matt White polish. Next, I took a tiny paintbrush and painted tiny little flowers onto my nails using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Vigorous Violet, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lickety Split Lime, No7 Grey Skies and Topshop Easy Breezy. After they had dried, I used a dotting tool with the same colours to create the centre of the flowers.

Holiday Challenge: Beach nails

I’m back again, starting a new challenge theme with the She Who Does Nail Art Challenges group! This week the theme is Holidays!

My first thought was to paint a gorgeous sandy beach shore, complete with starfish and crab! I am so chuffed with how this came out!!

Holiday Challenge: Beach nails

I started by painting my nails with a base of Models Own Bora Bora (didn’t I say that it looked like sand in my review!), and then painted on the waves area with LA Colors Sea Siren. I then gradually mixed Sea Siren with Barry M Matt White to make the edge of the sea lighter. Next I used Angelica Iced Sorbet and Barry M Block Orange to paint on the little starfish. Finally I used No7 Pillar Box to paint the crab, and Barry M Matt White and Nails Inc Black Taxi for the eyes.

I am completely in love with this nail art design. The sand is so sparkly and I just love how the sea edge turned out!

I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with this week!

Scion Flight Insipred Manicure

I’ve recently gone a little mad over Pinterest. This could be due to currently planning a wedding but I seem to be living on it, and one of my favourites things to find and look at are patterns. So I’ve decided to do a series on patterns. All patterns and any patterns that I find on Pinterest.

This was one of my favourite patterns on the list. I love how simple it is and reminds me of a summer’s day at the beach where my parents live. Plus, I was quite confident that it wouldn’t be too tricky to paint for my first attempt. It’s actually a wallpaper pattern too, and you can click on the photo to be taken to John Lewis’s website to purchase it.

I started my painting my nails with Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream which I think is my only light blue. I really need some more light blues. I used a really tiny paint brush to paint white birds on my nails with Barry M Matt White and then used the same paint brush to accent a few of those birds with No7 – Sing the Blues.

I can’t believe how easy it was to create such a cool effect! i’m also using my snazzy new light tent for these photos which is why they look so much better than the old ones! Woop!

For this manicure I used:
  • OPI Nail Envy
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • No7 – Sing the Blues
  • Seche Vite Quick Dry Topcoat

Day 25 of the 30 Day Challenge: Inspired by fashion

The finish line is nearly in sight. I’m not going to lie…I can’t wait for it to be over. My creativity is starting to run thin.

Today’s theme is ‘inspired by fashion’ and I did think about copying a dress print from London Fashion Week that has just gone but then I remembered that I had a cool new set of clothes and fashion stamping images that I haven’t tried out yet.

First I painted my nails with No7 Winter Tale which is a polish from their new collection recently released. The colour is really lovely. One of the men at work described it as ‘battleship grey’ which I thought was a very good description so I’m stealing it. The consistency is not so lovely however. It is impossible to get the right amount of polish on the brush. You either get too much and it dribbles everywhere or not enough and it streaks and drags. It makes me a bit reluctant to buy any more from the new No7 collection.

After it had dried I used five different stamp images to stamp over the grey with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Grape Escape which is a lovely dark metallic purple. These Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes are amazing for stamping. I managed to pick this one up with a few other colours from Poundland a few weeks ago which was an absolute bargain.

Hope you like it :)

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • No7 – Winter Tale
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri Grape Escape
  • Cheeky Image Plate CH37
  • Cheeky Image Plate CH55
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 14 of the 30 Day Challenge: Flowers

Floral is probably my favourite pattern to wear EVER. Most of the tops I own have some sort of floral-ness to them.

There were too many different kinds of floral to think about for today’s challenge so I decided to opt for something I have seen quite a few times before and I’m really pleased with how they turned out!

Flowers – in the sun

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream to give a nice summery background to my nail design. I then mixed Barry M Matt White and No7 Pillar Box to create a nice light pink and used a dotting tool to make the centre of the flowers on the nails.

I then used No7 Pillar Box with a small paintbrush to make the petal marks. Finally I used alternating strokes of Barry M Mint Green and Barry M Racing Green to make the flowers.

I really like them! What do you think?

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • No7 Stay Perfect – Pillar Box Red
  • Barry M – Mint Green
  • Barry M – Racing Green
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 12 of the 30 Day Challenge: Stripes

Sorry for the late post today folks! I’ve had the day off today and have spent it looking into a new nail-related web project. More info coming on that in the next few weeks!

Today’s theme is ‘stripes’ and I didn’t really want to do your average striped nails, so I went for something a bit different! I realised that my nail polishes and nail art design generally aren’t very work-friendly. I’m very lucky in the face that I can wear whatever nail polish I like to work but I know that some of you can’t. So here’s a simple elegant nail art design that could be worn around the office :)

My untried for the day today is No7′s Totally Teal. I tend to find Teal a bit of an awkward colour as I don’t really own anything that is teal coloured, so that’s probably why I have never used it before. It was really lovely to use though and I’ll have to use it again as the colour suited me quite nicely.

I used my new LA Colors Art Deco in Black which is a tall thin bottle with very thin long brush in it that is perfect for making these thin stripes across the nail.

Overall I’m really pleased with this manicure, but the colours do leave me wanting to re-do this in a lime green and purple or something!

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • No7 Stay Perfect – Totally Teal
  • LA Colors Art Deco – Black
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

My Westfields Haul

I’ve been shopping again…

So Saturday afternoon, my boyfriend and I didn’t have much to do and as we were meeting a friend in London for dinner we thought that a day out in London would be nice. I might have coincidently suggested a trip to Westfields shopping centre in Shepherd Bush just on the weekend that Models Own had released a new set of glitter polishes exclusively in their bottle shop there… More on this later.

Off we went on our merry way and had a really lovely afternoon wandering around before heading further into central London for dinner, and I bought LOADS of goodies :)

The first beauty shop we saw was Inglot. I have never heard of this brand before, but they had so many coloured polishes on display near the door I dragged Jack in for a look. After much deliberation, I came out with this beauty. The picture doesn’t really do it justice but it’s a lovely shimmery green. Can’t wait to try this out. Bit pricey though at £8 for the one bottle, but I think you sometimes lose your sense of value in shopping centres like this one.

Inglot 320

We popped into Lush quickly, which if I’m honest I’m not a fan of. I just find the smells too strong and I start getting a headache :( I really wanted to get a pot of the Lemon Flutter cuticle cream though as I have heard so many good things about it. It really does smell amazing as so far it has left my cuticles so soft and supple. I think it’ll last forever too asyou really dont seem to need much. The lady in the shop said it is also good for elbows and knees which is nice.

I bought the Neutrogena Hand & Nail Cream as I didn’t have any hand cream in my bag and was dying for some moisturiser. This one feels awesome though. It leaves this really lovely silky feeling on your hands after you’ve used it. My boyfriend wasn’t so keen…

Neutrogena Hand & Nail Cream, Lush Lemon Flutter Cuticle Cream

When I bought the hand cream from Boots I was given a voucher for £3 off No7 cosmetics. Oh dear. Off we trundled to the No7 nail polish counter and I picked out this awesome vibrant (verging on neon) coral colour for just £2.50!

No7 Cheeky Chops

After more trundling around we came across a mega cheap beauty shop selling LA Color polishes for only 99p each! Naturally I had to have loads of them. I picked up three glitters and four shimmers in all. I actually picked up a lot more than that, but Jack made me put some back. I also got an Art Deco polish pen brush thing which I used yesterday and worked really well :)

LA Colors – Star Light, Aqua Crystals & Treasure Island

LA Colors – Aztec Orange, Wired, Bronze Bombshell & Apricot Fizz

LA Colors – Art Deco Black

We also found another cheap beauty shop selling polishes for £1.50 each so I told myself I was allowed to buy six of them. I got the most awesome blue one, a champagney sort of colour and four pinks. I don’t really have many pinks so I thought I needed to rectify this. Currently I’m wearing the bright pink in the middle of the first photo and it truly is full on Barbie. Amazing!

Kiko – 217, 277 & 364

Kiko – 336, 303 & 261

So after a few hours of walking about we finally found the bottle shop of awesomeness that I had been looking for. If you haven’t seen the Models Own bottleshop at Westfields you should really go and check it out. My boyfriend did get a little claustrophobic in there, but I was far too busy zipping about trying to choose the colours I wanted. There was such a great deal on. You could get any 6 polishes for £20, and you would then also get one free!

I chose to get all the new Mirrorball polishes (obviously) and also got Pink Fizz and Scarlet Sparkle which I’ve had my eye on for a while. I could have gone a bit more mad, but I figured that I should wait until they do their 50% off sale at the end of the month.

Models Own Mirrorball Collection

Models Own – Pink Fizz & Scarlet Sparkle

All in all an expensive but rewarding day indeed. In case you’re wondering, my boyfriend Jack bought himself a self stirring mug from a gadget shop which is pretty awesome (I have one too!) and we had a lovely evening in central London with our friend :)

Don’t forget to enter my GIVEAWAY to win a bottle of Barry M Foil Effect Silver!
